Frequently Asked Questions

  • A limited obstetrical ultrasound can 1)  date your pregnancy, 2)  confirm that your pregnancy is in the uterus (not ectopic), 3) confirm that you have a viable pregnancy (that you aren’t miscarrying).  This is important because approximately 10-20% of pregnancies actually end on their own in the first 12 weeks.1

  • The most accurate way to date a pregnancy is through an ultrasound.  Many clients find out that they are at a very different point in their pregnancy than they thought.   The date of you last period should not be relied on to determine gestational age.

  • You have all the time you need to make the right choice. This is your decision.  No one should rush you or pressure you.  Take your time and get the information you need to decide what is best for you and your future.

  • Absolutely. We want you to ask questions. This is a big decision and we want you to take your time and feel comfortable with whatever choice you make.

  • During your medical appointment you will meet with an RN. All ultrasounds are performed by an RDMS (registered diagnostic medical sonographer).  All medical services and staff operate under the supervision of our medical director who is a Medical Doctor.

  • Each appointment is unique because your situation is unique.  Generally, you will start the appointment by filling out paperwork then completing a pregnancy test.  You will meet with a nurse to discuss the results of your pregnancy test.  If the test is positive, you will likely be offered a sonogram during that same visit at our facility.  After the sonogram, you will have an opportunity to discuss the ultrasound results and receive additional resources.  Our medical staff will work to answer questions that you have so you feel informed, prepared and comfortable making a decision about you pregnancy.

  • All services provided by PSC are offered at no cost. You don’t need to worry about having insurance.  PSC is a 501c3 nonprofit funded through the generosity of community partners and grants.  Many in our community believe that women deserve to have excellent care and options when making a choice about their pregnancy so they generously support and fund the work of PSC.
